  1. Twitter is a social media outlet that uses short comments or blurbs to communicate.
My twitter name is Leah Brittain@lbrittain5
I chose to follow; Joe McFarland, Traci Landry, Alicia Dunlop,TeachHub, Khan Academy, We Are Teachers...
I haven't come up with a chat that I'd like to follow yet. I'm just searching, watching and reading other tweets until I become more familiar and comfortable with Twitter.
I've learned that there is a lot of information out there. I've learned that a lot of different teachers of differing age groups use this social media outlet, and I've learned how different teachers use this media outlet in their own classrooms. I've also learned some strategies for using this tool with young learners in a safe way. I'm looking forward to learning a lot more as I browse through the world of Twitter.

    5. Some of the first things that I have learned from Twitter that I have mentioned before was not to have spaces after the @ and # symbols. Also, that a person can have multiple accounts using the same e-mail address. This is great when separating personal and professional information. I have also learned that it is so easy to set up an account and when you want to follow someone, you better make sure that that account is the “official” one or the tweets are actually by the person you want to follow. This is especially true for celebrities that you want to follow :)During the workshop I have learned that while Twitter can be a great tool to engage students in our 21st century, currently the tool is designed for older students. If one uses it in the lower grades it might be better to connect through their parents. And finally through this workshop I have personally realized the difference between many social network sites, e.g., Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and how each is beneficial to professional growth and what their purposes are.

  3. 1.To me, Twitter is a way to communicate with others using brief posts/comments. It is a social media outlet for sharing ideas and opinions.
2.My Twitter name is Deborah Wood @DebWood48.
3.I have chosen to follow Traci Landry, Christine Yarzabek, Alicia Dunlop, Fabulous 4th Grade, Stacy Simmers, and Elementary Math.
4.Since this is my first year using a blog with my students, I might consider joining the “blog chat” at 9pm on Sunday evenings.
    5.Things learned:
a.I have learned that Twitter can be overwhelming. Maybe if it were the only social media used, it would be manageable? I can see myself becoming a bit obsessed, checking Twitter often so as not to miss something.
    b. I now understand hashtags and how they work.
    c. I see that some people are constantly tweeting and retweeting. I have learned that when you follow someone you automatically see tweets that this person retweets. To me this get s bit annoying. Retweets are outnumbering tweets on my “page”… Is that what you call it? Page?
    d. I have learned how some teachers are using Twitter as a professional learning community, and I am interested in doing this more. I am always looking for good ideas that are free.
    e. I have learned that using Twitter would benefit my students and their parents when it comes to distributing information in a quick, easy manner. One question I have, however, is… How is sending out a message via Twitter better than sending out a group e-mail? I would think that e-mail users still far outnumber people using Twitter.

  4. 1.Twitter is an online social networking system that allows people to communicate through post and comments on numerous topics. Others can follow one another and learn about different things through the “tweets” that are put out into the world.

    2.My Twitter name is @SamAil51

3.I am currently following a number of people. A few of them are: Traci Landry, Christine Yarzabek, Allison Mackley, and Alicia Dunlop.

4.I just began following a chat/woman who is a 4th grade teacher. Her name is Fabulous 4th Grade and she has many interesting ideas that I could potential use within my own classroom.
    5.Things I have learned:

•I have learned exactly what hash tags are and how you can use them to follow different groups.
•I learned that Twitter can be used in the lower grade levels as a way to communicate with parents or guardians of students.
•I now understand that I can use Twitter to follow other teachers to see what other ideas, curriculum builders or activities they are doing with their 4th grade classroom. It reminds me a little of Pinterest in the way that we can share (pin/tweet) ideas and then find ideas from others as well (repin/retweet).
•I also learned that I can attach a link to our classroom blog (which I did!) so that others who follow me can check out our blog and comment there too. It is a neat way to get more people connected all across the globe!

  5. 1. Initially I thought Twitter was just another form of social media that I saw pop on shows I was watching such as Dancing with the Stars. Some of what was said was relevant to the show but I could not see myself using it in school. I now know that twitter is an informational network and is delivered immediately when posted. I did not know there were Twitter chat rooms or how numerous the tweets could be.

    2. My Twitter name is @mathikin.

    3. Five people I have decided to follow include my sister, Maureen Havrilla, Alicia Dunlop, Emmitt Smith, Robin Roberts, and
    my niece, Casey Havrilla.

    4. I would like to try a chat room called #blendchat. We are currently working on that skill and the kids are really struggling.

    5. I have learned that twitter can be useful and informative, not just fun ways to express opinions on TV shows. I like the thought of using twitter to inform parents of impending events, homework, tests, etc. I have learned that chat rooms are available that will allow me to get and share ideas from other teachers.
I learned from my sister not to "tweet" personal messages with sensitive information in them.

    5. I have learned the following about Twitter:

-It is not like FB in that it never 'ends', therefore, you have to be prepared for the onslaught of tweets and be okay with not reading them all.

-I learned that you call the number sign with the words that follow a hashtag.

    - I learned that if you want to connect with a person you put the @ sign in front of their Twitter name, but if you are looking for a topic, you put a # in front of the key words.

-I've learned that Twitter can be a useful tool for teachers but it can also be an incredible time waster and a little bit frustrating.

-I've learned that you can easily connect with teachers from around the globe on Twitter.

-I've learned that I like Pinterest more than Twitter but I am willing to give it a try.
